"Nothing's happned or would've heard a cannon."(Collins 308) What is going on is that katniss is talking to peta because peta thinks that some thing bad is going to happen to night but katniss says if something bad where to happen then it would already happen and the cannon has not went off yet symbalising that someone has died. A inference I can draw from this text is that it seems like Peeta is on edge all the time and the suspence of waiting for that cannon to go off is the only thing he can think about.
